Animal Print Fleece

Just a quickie picture.....

Me and Mallory and our fleece! Her's is cuter than mine. I think I'm converting her into a fleece lover as well!

Widget & Whatnot Wednesday - The Rotisserie Chicken

Yes, The Rotisserie Chicken. No it's not some website or new techno gadget, but the lowly Rotisserie Chicken has been known to make my life so much easier, just like my iphone, so I figured I'd brag a little about all the things you can do with a Rotisserie Chicken.

No, I don't mean a doorstop or bait for the annoying neighbors dog, I'm talking all the wonderful meals you can prepare with a Rotisserie Chicken at a moments notice, which is what I'm all about!! Quick and easy. Rachael Ray has nothing on a Rotisserie Chicken!

Most people I know eat a Rotisserie Chicken in it's true form, as a leg or breast with sides for dinner. That's great, and that's one option, but one I don't actually, let me rephrase, my husband, doesn't actually like it like that unless forced upon him. Why, who knows, it's yummy, but I have to disguise Rotisserie Chicken in various other meals that he eats happily with no complaints....most of the time.

In other words, I have learned to camouflage this lovely chicken into a ton of easy to cook meals and I thought I'd share some of my favorites.

What got me thinking about doing a post about Chicken was this post from another blog/site that I follow: http://www.lilsugar.com/Meals-Make-Rotisserie-Chicken-11010211 They've got some good ideas on there as well.

So, I realized that I'm not the only one doing a Houdini on this lovely and cheap grocery store staple.

I normally buy a Rotisserie Chicken a couple times a month, typically the Savory Herb variety, and as soon as I get home (since the hubby doesn't like to eat it as is) I pull off every shred of meat I can find on the bird, minus the skin, and put into a container that then goes into the fridge to wait to be turned into various dinners that my husband will eat. And as a note, the chicken is much easier to shred when it's still warm. Cold chicken is tough, literally.

Because of this process, the shredded chicken actually gave us several meals during the really bad ice storm of 2008 when we had no electricity for 5 days. Protein at your service! We made a couple of my below meals on our gas camp stove that were extra tasty when you are so limited as to what you can fix or eat.

Here's a list of some of my favorite meals, or ways to eat the shredded chicken. I can normally get a good 3 meals out of a $5 Rotisserie chicken.

  • Chicken Quesadillas

  • Chicken Nachos

  • Chicken Enchiladas (yes we like Mexican)

  • Chicken/Tomato/Basil/Fresh Mozzarella Tortilla Pizzas with Pesto or on top of any type pizza

  • Chicken Pot Pie

  • Chicken Panini's

  • Chicken Salad

  • I put the shredded chicken on a tossed salad

  • Pasta salad with Chicken or any pasta dish, just add chicken

  • Chicken Jambalaya or Gumbo (I'm talking easy Zataran's out of the box!)

  • My Noodle Chicken Soup (recipe below)

  • Chicken Enchilada Soup (recipe below)

  • White Chili

  • And I'm sure you could think of more!

As you can see, there's a ton of quick and easy meals that you can whip up with that lowly Rotisserie Chicken, most of which I like better than eating it plain anyway.

I'd love to hear your ideas or recipes that you use Rotisserie Chicken in, and here's two recipes that are my favorites. Noodle Chicken Soup I invented, I love Chicken Noodle Soup, but I don't like real soupy soups, if that makes sense, I want noodles! So I came up with this recipe that we love. The Chicken Enchilada Soup recipe comes from our cousin Amy. Unfortunately it isn't one Ben favors but I love it and it freezes well.

Noodle Chicken Soup ~ Rhonda Werner

1/2 of a shredded Rotisserie Chicken

1 small onion diced

1 cup of celery diced

1 can of sliced carrots, chopped smaller

2 cans of condensed cream of chicken WITH HERBS Soup

1 box of Chicken stock

2 Soup Cans of Water

1/2 a bag of Egg Noodles

Saute onions and celery in 2 Tbs Olive Oil until tender. Add Soups, Water, Broth and carrots and bring to a boil.

Then add your chicken and 1/2 a bag of egg noodles and salt and pepper to taste.

Cook for the recommended time on the bag of egg noodles.

You can eat at that time, or if you set it off the burner for 20 minutes or so it thickens even more, which is the way I prefer it.

Enchilada Chicken Soup ~ Amy Adamson

1 can condensed fiesta nacho cheese soup, undiluted

1 can condensed cream of chicken soup, undiluted

2 2/3 cups of milk

The recipe calls for 1 10 oz can of chicken, but canned chicken grosses me out, so here's where in add as much shredded rotisserie chicken as you want in the soup, two good handfuls normally does it for me.

1 can enchilada sauce

1 4 oz can chopped green chilies.

Sour Cream & Frito Corn Chips

Dump everything but sour cream and fritos in large saucepan and heat until heated through. (sometimes I do this in the crock-pot since it's a dump and go soup and just let it sit on low for 3 or 4 hours)

Garnish with Sour Cream and Frito Corn Chips (and for me, these 2 items make the whole soup!)

I'd love to hear your Rotisserie Chicken Recipes if you have them!

Ahhhh, Fleece weather has arrived!

Those of you who know me well know I have a "slight" infatuation with fleece.....I'd wear it all year round if I could get away with it. I think one can never own too much fleece and I'm happy to say as I went outside this Sunday morning, I can confidently say Fleece Weather has arrived! At least for the next several days, I'm hoping those pesky 90 degree days are now officially gone for the year!

So, it should come as no surprise that I've already bought Mallory her first fleece as well! Actually I bought it about 2 months ago but it's 6 month size so we are moving her into 6 month clothes this weekend. So all her cute little fleece Carter's vest/outfits that I got her will be good to go for those fall days!

We've had a busy week, as always.

The week started off with us receiving Sofie the Teething Giraffe from Amazon. I've heard tons of people rave about this little rubber giraffe and I figured it would give Mallory an alternative to her fist or the burp cloth to shove into her mouth. So far she really seems to like it. Don't know what it is about it, but they seem to love it.
Here's a few pictures of Bean and Sofie.

We got her Weigh In on Friday evening and she's up to 14 lb 7.5 oz. Not a huge gain from last week but at this point they slow down some anyway and I can tell she's really gained inches in the last couple weeks, which is why the footy pj's aren't fitting anymore and we are having to move into the 6 month jammies and clothes.

I had something happen this week that I've never had happen before.....my baked potatoes exploded in the oven. Not just one, but both of them. What in the world causes that?? They hadn't been in there too long, perhaps moisture, but who knows. I didn't do anything differently than normal. I her one pop and was like, wow that's weird, and then about 5 minutes later the other one popped. Really strange. Here's the pictures to prove it.

The race for the cure was on Saturday and it was really neat to be there with that many people, somewhere over 15,000 people were there for the festivities. We opted for Ben and Mallory to stay at home and I treked over there around 6 am on Saturday. Here's a few pictures from yesterday and all the people. I did finish the race without walking but I was 10 seconds slower than last weekend, but I attribute that to having to fight, dodge and weave my way through thousands of people in the first mile. They didn't have those running start first so it was just a big mess and you would have to jog in place until you could get around people, so only a 10 second different from last week after all that isn't too bad.

Thanks again for everyone who made donations and supported me! It was just great to see all the survivors and everyone's overall positive mood. There was one lady there who was a 54 year survivor. I couldn't get a good look at her to see how old she is now, but she's got to be in at least her middle 70's!

Here's some crowd shots and my "In Celebration Of" tag I wore in the race.

Bean is just barely getting to the point where she can sit up some unaided for a very brief amount of time. Here's a few shots of her doing that and other just cute pictures from the past week.

RSV Season is here.....what you need to know!

RSV Season is here….what you need to know!

I had never heard of RSV prior to realizing that I would be having a preemie, so, I’m going to assume most of my friends and family have not heard of it either, but you need to know about it, especially for those who will or plan on having any contact with Mallory between now and April.

RSV is something that we have all probably had, in adults and older children it shows up as a bad cold, in preemies and those with lung problems, it develops into a severe lower respiratory virus that infects the lungs and breathing passages and can cause hospitalization.

What Mallory had back in June was a Respiratory Virus that landed her in the hospital, but wasn’t RSV. RSV is typically worse, so that’s why, although some of you may feel as though I’m going a little “over the top” because she “looks” fine now, I don’t care. You can't "see" how well her lungs function and after the issue at 2 1/2 months, I'm more concerned than I probably would have been if that hadn't happened. I will take all precautions possible for her first winter to avoid RSV and keep from being in the hospital again. After the first winter if she hasn’t had any other lung/breathing/respiratory viruses we will not have to be so diligent in the future.

There is a medication called Synagis that is used to help prevent a serious lung disease caused by RSV in infants and children at high risk. Unfortunately for us it doesn’t appear as though Mallory will qualify for this medication, which is given as a shot once a month during RSV season. She meets some of the qualifications, such as born before 35 weeks, attending day care, etc., but not enough for insurance to cover it, and if I want to pay for it out of pocket, I think it’s about $2500 a shot. I’m going to discuss again when we go to her 6 month check-up on the 5th of October, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

So, even though she doesn’t meet the “high risk” qualification based on insurance, that means we have to be that much more diligent because we can’t get the medication.

Here are the basics on preventing RSV:

• Must wash hands with warm soapy water or use hand sanitizer prior to handling baby.

• Must keep baby away from dense crowds such as shopping centers and churches.

• Keep baby away from people with cold-like symptoms.

• If it’s not possible (because parent has a cold) to keep those sick totally away from baby, be sure to keep disinfected as possible and if one must touch/handle the baby, to use a mask and wash hands often.

• Limit the time that the baby spends in child-care centers or other potentially contagious settings during RSV season. (Obviously we cannot avoid this completely but Mallory is kept away from the other kids)

Ben and I are starting today taking Airborne everyday to help ward off us contracting any colds too.

So, although I’m hoping for the best and an uneventful RSV season, it is something that I’m concerned about, especially after the episode we had in June. It really scared me that night we had to rush Mallory to the ER and I would prefer to avoid a similar situation again at all cost.

So, please don’t be upset if I don’t want to attend church or hit the malls during Christmas season with Mallory and I ask that if you or someone you are close to has a cold, to please avoid being around us and let us know prior to being in contact with us. Christmas and Thanksgiving will be interesting and we will hope no one is very sick and don’t be surprised if you get lots of hand sanitizer from me and don’t expect to get much one-on-one Mallory time if you are cold-ish.

I know many people who do go on absolute lock down during their first RSV season and will not even let anyone in their house. I’m going to attempt to avoid going that far, but things will probably be more limited over these upcoming winter months and I will probably go through a lot of purell and Lysol.

For more info on RSV, here’s a few sites that might explain things in a more “medical” manner than what I did.

Widget & Whatnot Wednesday - Cool Deal Sites

I'm all about a deal. I love googling for coupon codes before I ever place an order online....90% of the time I'm always able to get free shipping or a % off, love it!

So as a new momma, I've determined that there's WAY to much super cute stuff out there and of course I think Mallory needs a lot of it! So, how to find cool stuff at a much cheaper price is a big plus!!

There's 3 sites that come to mind, one of which I've used several times and the other 2 I've got my eye on but just haven't found something that I feel I HAVE TO HAVE......yet!

So, I shed a little tear as I share some of my "secret" places to shop.....

My favorite and one I have bought several things from is Baby Steals. They also have Kid Steals which is based on the same premise, which I will describe, but I have a baby, not a kid, so I haven't used it yet.

Baby Steals is a website that at 9 am Mountain Time (they are based in Utah) every day they post the "steal" of the day. It's a first come first serve thing and you've got to be quick but you can score some pretty good deals! I've bought Mallory's nifty little zebra print bottle cooler that we use everyday to go to Mrs. Carole's and I've bought her Halo Sleep Sacks at half price.

There are 3 ways, that I'm aware of, to get the notification on the daily steal. First would be to check the website, second is they post it on their Facebook Fan Page every day as it goes up and they also email you....I do the latter two and it's always posted on FB a good 15 or 20 minutes before I get my email, so Facebook seems to be the way to be in the know in time to actually buy the deal of the day!

You can sign up for email and get the link to their fan page at www.babysteals.com. And for those with kids, www.kidsteals.com.

Next up is Zulily, which I found from my coworker Lacey. Zulily emails you every day and typically gives you 4-8 new sites with special Zulily member sales. Typically some pretty cool designer duds for baby, maternity clothes and other neat "mommy" stuff. These aren't quite the "snatch and grab" items like Baby Steals, you typically get a week on what's on sale as long as it stays in stock. Some really cool stuff, I just haven't ever ordered, but really like getting their emails everyday.

You can register with Zulily at their website www.zulily.com.

Last of the day is Totsy. Totsy is very similar to Zulily, but different deals, not the same stuff, so you get lots of great options!! I know they have Halloween outfits on sale right now as well as Christmas stuff! Don't have to wait until after the holiday to get the deals! Again, tons of cute stuff I just haven't ordered anything yet!

You can get to Totsy at www.totsy.com and join and get their sales emailed to you everyday as well.

Also, if you sign up for Totsy.com and go through my link: http://www.totsy.com/join/rhondacaughlin

I will get a $15 credit when you place your first order, so by all means, join and buy something, LOL!

So, go grab some cool deals!!

The "Farmer's Daughter" Quilt Block

The “Farmer’s Daughter”

Paint has always been my medium of choice. I guess it all started back in 6th grade when I took a Toll Painting (yes, Toll Painting, very folksy/country style that no one seems to do much anymore) and just have enjoyed it since. I’m an acrylic kind of girl, never dabbled in oils and prefer painting things that don’t require a lot of detail…..so, 8 foot by 8 foot quilt squares fall into that category of “likes.”

Susan and I had been discussing doing on for Dad’s Tobacco barn for several years but just never really did anything about it. When we lived over in Richmond, KY, there seemed to be a lot of Barns with quilt squares and even a few more have popped up around home in the past few years.

Quilting is way to detailed for my attention span but my Aunt Brenda in California obviously find great pleasure in quilting because I am the proud recipient of several of her quilts. And I LOVE quilts, I just don’t have a lot of patience for doing them.

Aunt Brenda happened upon the quilting book called “The Farmer’s Wife Quilt” which is put together by Laurie Hird. You can find more about this book and quilt squares HERE on her blog. Basically she has incorporated letters that came into the “Farmer’s Wife” magazine in the early 1900’s I believe and then their corresponding quilt squares. Regardless, her book is a neat look back in history and to what it was like to be a farmer’s wife back then and provides you with 111 quilt squares to choose from and instructions on how to build your own sampler quilt in various sizes.

So, in thumbing through that book and looking at all the neat patterns, Susan and I landed on one called “Farmer’s Daughter.” How appropriate! Plus, as our first attempt at this, it didn’t look too daunting in design! So with that we were off to Lowe’s to get our supplies for our first ever quilt square.

I had an idea on what would be required to do this project, but a quick look by Susan on the internet confirmed my thoughts and we were off with a list in hand.

Supplies needed to build a Barn Quilt Square:
  • 2 4X8 sheets of plywood. (we opted for the 19/32 thickness)
  • Primer of choice, we used tinted Kilz
  • Latex Outdoor paint in your choice of colors
  • Clear Deck Weather Stain/Sealant
  • Brushes/Rollers
  • Painters Tape (low adhesive)
  • Chalk Line
  • Pencil
  • Other paint supplies such as liners, etc.
Here we are on our way back from Lowe's with the bounty!

Here's some of the pictures of our progress and our finished project. Can't wait to get it up on Dad's barn! I'll give an update and new pictures once it's up on the barn. Dad says he wants to have the barn painted first, so who knows when it will be, but it's done regardless!

Now I have the desire to try to get Todd County to find places for each of the 110 other patterns in the book and have a "Farmer's Wife" Barn Quilt tour.......

Cereal, Running, Farming & Barns

Wow, it seems like so much has gone on since Wednesday's post! It's been a busy past several days.

To start, on Thursday night, I decided to try to give Bean some Rice Cereal/Formula slurry by spoon and see what she would do. It was rather comical some of the looks on her face! She didn't eat too much, but it was good to just get her used to the idea of eating via spoon in mouth as opposed to bottle. We did it again tonight and she took to it much better, so much that she even grabbed the spoon out of my hand and shoved it in her own mouth! Here's some pictures from this past Thursday and our first feeding attempt:

I also think she's on quite the little growing spurt, more up than out. I've noticed in several of her sleepers she's really pushing as to if they fit anymore and I noticed really just this week that her little feet are now to the end of her infant seat carrier and she can push against the seat...which she seems to enjoy.

Friday night we headed to Elkton because I was to run the Elkton 5K as my "trial" 5K before my Susan B Komen Race for the Cure this coming Saturday. I figured fewer participants to embarrass myself in front of. There's a whole blog post on my race HERE on my New Momma Jogger blog site, so you can read all the specifics there and pictures. I met my goals of finishing under 40 minutes (which is a horribly slow goal by the way) and finishing without walking, so I was happy for both of those.

ITS ALSO NOT TOO LATE TO MAKE A DONATION FOR MY RACE FOR THE CURE ON SEPT 25, HINT HINT. The link is to the top right of my blog. And a Big THANK YOU, to those who have already donated!!

Mom brought Mallory to the race so they could be there as we finished, here's a picture of Bean in her jogging stroller:

Mallory likes to make herself right at home at Mom and Dad's....here's a few pictures proving that....even controlling the remote already, LOL!

Susan and I finally started our Barn Quilt for Dad's tobacco barn. We had been wanting to do one of those quilt squares to put on the barn for a while and finally decided to just do it. I'm going to do a totally separate blog post outlining everything, but in a book Aunt Brenda had sent to mom we found the pattern called "Farmers Daughter" and we thought that was very appropriate so we pretty much completed everything this weekend. Susan was going to put the sealant/protector on it this evening, but here's a picture of the completed project...can't wait to get it up on the barn!!

Dad and Ben worked on the farm all weekend and Ben was able to sneak in a morning of Deer Hunting. Here's some pictures of Ben manning the combine.

I'm ready for what I hope to be a quiet but productive week and get prepared for the race on Saturday!!

The Russians have Arrived!

Yes, literally, the Russian's have invaded our home.

Aren't they cute! Meet Mallory's ancestors. No, she is not a Russian Nesting Doll, but each of these dolls represents 1 generation of Grandmothers on each side of her family.

My Aunt Brenda put this all together for Mallory and it's such a neat idea and cool way to be able to explain, once she is old enough, her ancestors. And although it's enclosed in Russian Nesting Dolls, I'm pretty sure there is no Russian Heritage on either side of the family. They are just the cute little carriers!

There are 6 Dolls on each side of the family. Mallory is represented by the teeny tiny one on each side. In the next size up are the names of her grandmothers on each side. Then the next size up are the Great Grandmothers Names. The next size are the names of the Great Great Grandmothers, etc, you get the point. All the way up to 5th Great Grandmothers!!

Those of you that know Aunt Brenda know she is they family heritage guru of our family and It's neat to see where our history comes from and think about what all these great women before us lived and in their own way, obviously, contributed to us being here!

I've got to sit down and really dive into all the info Aunt Brenda sent on both sides of the family, but it's very interesting. Some of Mallory's heritage includes of course American, Australian, German, Scottish, French, English and Cherokee. I'll add more tidbits as I read more.

Thank you Aunt Brenda for such a unique and cool gift that can continue to be passed down the line!

On another note, our little Bean has been diagnosed as a Happy Spitter. Sounds real technical huh? But that's what the Doctor called it.

She seems to be spitting up more and more, even with her Zantac. So I figured since our little chunk was right at 14 pounds now, she probably needed to increase her dosage. Nope, what she's taking is right for her weight. He said as long as she isn't in pain when she spits up, which she isn't, or seems like her tummy hurts, which it doesn't, then she is considered in the great medical field to be a Happy Spitter.

She actually seems to find it rather amusing when she spits up, so I guess it's a correct diagnosis, just not real technical.

Other than that, we are all well here! She keeps growing and every day just seems more and more interested in stuff and playing with her toys. She's grasping that rattle, and whacking herself on the head, but she's doing good!

Here's a few more pictures of Bean!

Widget & Whatnot Wednesday - Motion X GPS Drive

So, for today's WWW I'm going to rave once again about the iPhone app Motion X GPS Drive.

A previous review of this app is buried somewhere deep in my blog, but after last night and my continued frustration with the Fancy Smancy GPS that came in our 2010 Ford Edge, I have to give it props again.

If it isn't on blackberry, palm or other smart phones, I hope it is soon because I LOVE it.

When I downloaded it, the app was 99 cents with a free 30 day turn by turn directions trial. Once that time was up you could either use it without it speaking the directions to you or you can pay $3 to access turn by turn for a month if it's something you may only really use a couple times a year or download turn by turn for an entire year for $24.99. So basically, you get a super gps for $26 that so far, surpassses the expensive crap in my vehicle that goes with you anywhere you have your phone.

The link to their website is: http://www.motionx.com/

Last night I had our first Junior League meeting of the season. We take off during the summer and I've been away since January because of that little thing called having a baby earlier this year.....so I was excited to get back into the swing of things and our big Rummage sale is coming up, so I wanted to get all the specifics on that.

I jotted down the address of where we were going to have the meeting....but it was actually the address of the photographer who would be there to take our yearbook pictures...my vehicle gps got me to that address without issue.

I then pulled up our Junior League website on the handy dandy iphone and found the address to the home that the meeting was to be held. Plugged it into the Ford....no such address existed in it's lovely database of streets in Owensboro. THIS IS A 2010 VEHICLE!!!! The subdivision, albeit somewhat new, has probably been established for atleast oh, 5 years.....the road should have been in it's oh so new memory.

Well crap, so I figure, what the hell, lets see if my 99 cent iphone gps app can help me out here because I know I've seen Copper Creek subdivision before but I have NO CLUE where it's at. I plug in the address and voila, I'm 1.6 miles away, it takes me directly to the house where I only arrive 5 mintues late to my meeting, with absolutley no help from the Ford navigation system.

I also love it because, unlike the Ford, I can type in Target, and it will tell me where the nearest 20 Targets are located and will then oh so sweetly direct me turn by turn how to get to my favorite store.

The Ford cannot do that, alas, it doesn't recognize Target. So sad.

So my backup gps saved me from missing my meeting...I've used it quite a few times and I know wherever I go, I can always find whatever I'm looking for, unlike the piece of junk in my vehicle.

I highly advise purchasing this handy dandy app for those with an iphone and a need for occasional directions.

Football & Highchair

I didn't get to post Friday, but Mallory is up to 13 lbs 14.5 oz....just on the verge of 14 pounds and probably is now!

This weekend was exciting for several reasons. First, Grammy and Grandpa came to visit for the weekend from Sikeston, we got Bean her big girl High Chair and it's opening weekend for NFL!!

Bud and Susan arrived Friday evening and with the drizzle and cooler temps, I made a big pot of Beef Stew, my fav!!

Saturday all 5 of us treked to Evansville to get Bean's high chair. The one I had registered for was in stock at Babies-R-Us, so away we went. Of course you can't stop at BRU and not pick up other stuff along the way, so a few toys, a huge box of diapers and the high chair later, we were done and off to the Mall for Old Navy socks.

She never got a good nap in yesterday and you could tell Saturday evening....little miss cranky pants, LOL! When she finally got settled down I think she went to bed around 9pm and slept until about 7:30 this morning!

Mallory finally rolled over in front of Grammy and Grandpa Sunday at lunch. I was beginning to wonder if she was going to show off or not, but she finally did.

Bud and Susan headed back to Sikeston after lunch, Ben and I were annoyed that neither the UK football game on Saturday or the Titans game today could be seen from our crappy local channels or Directv.....ug. At least both won and I watched the poor Colts (2nd fav team) get their butts handed to them....at least they were somewhat redeeming at the end. I'm sure Payton will pull the troops for next week.

With everything that's been going on I haven't gotten to run this weekend, which is mildly annoying and it doesn't look like I'm going to get one in this evening either with Mallory sleeping on me for 2 1/2 hours this afternoon while I watched football and then tennis, gag, because the remote was across the room and after yesterdays nap disasters, I wasn't going to interrupt her sleep for the remote!

Oh well, I'll head out tomorrow at lunch or tomorrow evening on the greenbelt one. I'm hoping to run the Elkton 5K this coming Saturday if we get down to Elkton, if not, I'll be ready for the Susan B Komen race the next weekend.

Here's a few pictures from the weekend....Mallory not sure what to think of her High Chair, her trying to feed herself her bottle, Tucker on his fav spot on the couch, which now has a lovely hole and we need to replace....and just a few others!

Widget & Whatnot Wednesday - Ebates.com

I’m going to try to make it a point to share cool tech stuff, gadgets, toys, websites, and other neat stuff I happen upon once a week on what I'm naming "Widget & Whatnot Wednesday." Which is also a play on www. since most of the stuff I come across has something to do or was found on the internet. I'll label all these posts WWW. I've always like to share neat stuff I come across, so I'm going to just try to do it once a week and focus just on that "thing." It will probably help to make it a little more searchable in the future too. Hope you enjoy!

I’d love to hear about cool stuff you find too, so be sure to share!

Today I’m sharing www.ebates.com. It’s something I’ve used, and I need to use more, since I seem to order a lot of stuff online.

Basically it’s a free service that if you go through their website to a zillion merchants and buy stuff online, you get a % rebate back.

Think of it like this, you know with school fundraisers they have gift cards to sell and depending on the merchant, the school gets back like 3% of the face value of the gift card sold? It’s like that but instead of the school getting that 3% back, you get it back in a quarterly check. How cool is that? And yes it works because I’ve gotten 2 quarterly checks back.

And it’s all free. No clue how it works, why it works, but it does.

All you have to do is go online and sign up at www.ebates.com and you will be on your way. Then you can scroll through the umpteen website companies that participate in their program, and most of the ones you would want to shop with are there.

I’ve got to get back in the habit of using Ebates more often again, but whenever you want to buy something online, start at ebates and then click on the merchant from there and then it keeps up with what you buy. You can see what your % refund for that merchant will be (orbitz and travel companies are on there too, which is good when I buy flights for work and can get rebates on them!!) and you will get a check.

Pretty painless, just gotta remember to go through ebates.

Hungry Hungry Hippo....er Mallory!

I think she's either going through a growth spurt or she's just really ready to eat more now. Ever since Sunday she's been wanting to eat every 2 to 2 1/2 hours instead of every 3 hours. It first started and she would cry uncontrollably, which was odd for her since she really only cries when she's hungry, needs a diaper changed or is really sleepy, and we couldn't console her and finally gave her a bottle which she latched on quickly and then drank all 6 oz....then it would all happen again in a couple hours.

So, after making sure she didn't have a fever, not seeing any teeth coming in, noting that she wasn't tugging on her ears and was still sleeping thorugh the night, at this point we are chalking it up to a growth spurt....or maybe just getting older and eating more.

I talked to the nurse and she said we could give her up to 8 oz at a time now and maybe she would go every 4 hours now. I'm not going to hold my breath on that, but we will see if that cuts down on the every 2 hours she seems to be at now.

Other than her hunger issues, things seem to be going well. She's almost rolling from back to stomach. She gets way over on her side and you think she's just going to roll over, but just doesn't quite make it.

I've got to get her a high chair. It will not be long before she's ready for one and we will move on to cereals and other such mushy stuff.

I'm about to wrap up the organization and decorating of her nursery. I've got some cute farm pictures of home that's I've got frames for and will put up along with a few other things. I never got the chance to do all of this before I ended up in the hospital, so even though she's 5 months, she really hasn't used her room yet though since we've kept her in our room. I'm thinking we will make that transition at 6 months if WE are ready, I don't think she cares one way or the other! The Angel Care Monitor is working great, so I think Ben and I could manage withouth her in the room with us.

I still haven't really made up my mind how I feel about the bumpers. They are on her crib now, she kept cramming her head into the end of the bed and then screaming, so I put them on. After a poll on facebook I see most people still just use the regular ones, so I'll probably keep them on, but I feel better that I have the Angel Care Monitor if I'm going to use the bumpers.

Here's a few pictures of what I've been working on in the nursery:

This weekend was for the most part relaxing. Ben went from Sikeston to my parents on Friday and I didn't go down until Saturday afternoon late. I wanted to just do things at my speed this weekend and not get in any big hurry. I worked on staining our enormous deck on Saturday morning. After almost 4 gallons of stain (which is all the local Lowes had in the color I needed) and I still wasn't done with the first coat on the floor, I left it and Bean and I went for our Week 8 Day 1 Run on the Greenbelt.

The huge deck, not even 1 coat done.....

Then we headed to Mom and Dad's. We had a pretty relaxing time there, got more stain from the Hopkinsville Lowes, and then came back Monday morning so I could work on the piles of Laundry and to work on Mallory's nursery. I got all that accomplished somehow and Ben came in around 6:30 after finishing up the corn with dad and we pretty much crashed.

Here's a picture from this morning when I had her all decked out in her cow dress, I couldn't resist a picture.....my little cow girl!!
